One of those leaders is Kendra Karas, who became DAVACO’s Director of Operations in 2024. With an extensive background in lodging and logistics, Kendra plays a crucial role in driving DAVACO's Facilities Maintenance division’s efficiency, agility, and customer-focused approach. Here, we delve into her journey, her operational philosophy, and the invaluable expertise she brings to DAVACO. 

A Journey Shaped by Customer-Centric Logistics 

Kendra's professional background reveals a steady trajectory of leadership and customer service. Starting her career in a Traveler Support Center, Kendra quickly moved up to managing a large department within a logistics-based company. She eventually transitioned into an Account Manager role, where she managed over 50 client accounts. Reflecting on her path, Kendra shares, “The logistics industry helped me understand the importance of building strong relationships and looking at operations from a big-picture perspective.” 

Her experience managing people and nurturing client relationships provided her with a unique skill set that now shapes her approach to facilities maintenance. "I learned early on to view things from the clients' perspective and think outside the box for creative solutions," she says. This customer-centered mindset has become a hallmark of her leadership style at DAVACO. 

Navigating DAVACO’s Facilities Maintenance Division 

Kendra joined DAVACO in November 2021 as an Account Manager, quickly rising through the ranks due to her dedication to continuous learning and team support. She stepped in to fill critical roles, such as handling Fexa, the Facilities Maintenance division’s work order management system, during a transitional period. Her initiative, paired with a keen understanding of department needs, earned her a promotion to Senior Account Manager, followed by her current role as Director of Operations. 

In her director role, Kendra is responsible for ensuring smooth operations across ticket management, financials, client relationships, and employee engagement. She emphasizes communication and teamwork, consistently fostering a collaborative environment. “By staying connected with our Account Managers, I can keep a pulse on client needs and provide support where it’s most needed,” she explains. 

An Emphasis on Agility and Urgency 

Kendra’s logistics background has equipped her with a sharp ability to balance speed and quality—especially critical in handling urgent facilities maintenance requests. "Our team is great at collaborating, which is essential for handling emergency situations," she notes. "Everyone is willing to step in where needed, whether it’s monitoring incoming requests or coordinating with vendors.” 

In recent situations, like responding to hurricanes, Kendra’s team worked seamlessly to maintain service levels, demonstrating the division’s responsiveness. She highlights, “From tracking vendor availability to coordinating with Account Managers, every team member knows the role they play, ensuring that client needs are met quickly and effectively.” 

A Leadership Style Centered on Growth and Adaptability 

A pivotal part of Kendra’s leadership philosophy is aligning team members with their strengths and helping them grow professionally. She encourages out-of-the-box thinking and creates opportunities for continuous learning, essential in a fast-evolving industry. “I try to lead by example and foster side-by-side learning,” she says, adding, “It’s important to me that everyone has the tools they need to succeed.” 

Kendra’s commitment to personal relationships with clients stands out. She believes that understanding each client on a deeper level allows her team to go beyond simple task management. “We aim to be more than a name on an email or an invoice—we’re true partners,” she shares. This partnership approach has even led to new business opportunities, as clients she’s worked with in the past have returned to DAVACO for their facilities needs. 

Looking Toward the Future 

Kendra is excited about DAVACO’s potential for growth and innovation. She sees the Facilities Maintenance division expanding in scope and capabilities, driven by the department’s adaptability and the strong relationships they build. One of her long-term goals is for the division to reach $100 million in revenue, though, as she puts it, "the sky’s the limit!"
